In a familiar scene from Alice in Wonderland, Alice asks the Cheshire Cat which way she ought to go. To which the Cheshire Cat replies, “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”
I’ve met people like Alice. They make decisions without a clear destination in mind. The inevitable result is a life void of meaning and purpose.
Trust me. You don’t want to be like Alice.
So here’s my challenge for you this weekend.
Ask yourself…
What does my life look like three years from now?
Don’t just think about it. Write it down.
Describe where you’re living, how you feel, what your business looks like, the exciting changes you have made, and the impact it’s having on your life.
When you’ve finished, compare what you wrote to your current reality.
Then ask yourself…
What am I willing to change today in order to achieve this vision for my future?
Knowing your destination is the first step in making meaningful change.
Which leads to purposeful goals.
Goal setting isn’t about picking a random target that sounds nice. Rather, your goals should connect your vision for a better future with practical steps that you can take today.
Not sure where to start?
Try the 3-3-3 framework
What are three goals you will focus on over the next three months that will get you closer to your three-year vision?
I’ve used this framework for myself, and with my team.
It helps us stay focused on what we can do right now, without losing sight of where we want to end up.
Make time this holiday season to cast your vision for the future. What changes must you make to reach your destination?
Practice management made simple.
